Suicides grow in Israel

By 1997, suicides in Israel increased by 73 people to at 379 suicides In Israel, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Israel there were 6.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Israel has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 379 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 301 were men suicides and 78 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.5 per 100,000 men and for women 2.6 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Israel suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 156 homicides in Israel, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.4 suicides.
