Number of suicides increases in Iceland

In 1978 around 26 suicides occurred in Iceland, 3 more than in 1977.

Iceland reported 11.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 12.98 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iceland, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 26 recorded suicide cases in 1978, 23 were men suicides and 3 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.4 per 100,000 men and for women 2.7 per 100,000 female.
