Suicides increase in Iceland

In 1977 occurred 23 suicides in Iceland. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 1976.

Iceland had 10.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 12.83 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iceland has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 23 recorded suicide cases in 1977, 19 were men suicides and 4 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17 per 100,000 men and for women 3.6 per 100,000 female.
