Hungary had 28 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.
Hungary has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 2,843 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 2,195 were men suicides and 648 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 45.5 per 100,000 men and for women 12.2 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Hungary suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 203 homicides in Hungary, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 14 suicides.
