Number of suicides increases in Haiti

In 2007 around 829 suicides occurred in Haiti, 18 more than in 2006. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Haiti reported 8.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 829 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 623 were men suicides and 207 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.31 per 100,000 men and for women 4.36 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Haiti suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 486 homicides in Haiti, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.7 suicides.
