Ghana - Intentional self-harm

In 2009 occurred 1,468 suicides in Ghana. This year, 85 more people committed suicide than in 2008. In 2009, on average 4 Ghanaians committed suicide every day.

Ghana had 6.27 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,468 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 1,134 were men suicides and 333 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.13 per 100,000 men and for women 2.66 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ghana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 427 homicides in Ghana, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
