In 1979 occurred 1,318 suicides in Denmark. This year, 128 more people committed suicide than in 1978. In 1979, on average 4 Danes committed suicide every day.

Denmark had 25.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 13.17 suicides per 100,000 people.

Denmark has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,318 recorded suicide cases in 1979, 804 were men suicides and 514 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.8 per 100,000 men and for women 19.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
