Suicides increase in Cyprus

In 2017 occurred 38 suicides in Cyprus. This year, 2 more people committed suicide than in 2016.

Cyprus had 4.07 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 38 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 32 were men suicides and 6 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.92 per 100,000 men and for women 1.36 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cyprus suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 7 homicides in Cyprus, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.4 suicides.
