Number of suicides increases in Bhutan

In 2003 around 81 suicides occurred in Bhutan, 3 more than in 2002.

Bhutan reported 13.41 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 81 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 49 were men suicides and 31 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.72 per 100,000 men and for women 10.47 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bhutan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 5 homicides in Bhutan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 16.2 suicides.
