In 1987 around 2,069 suicides occurred in Austria, 70 less than in 1986. In 1987, on average 6 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria reported 27.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.56 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,069 recorded suicide cases in 1987, 1,445 were men suicides and 624 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 40.1 per 100,000 men and for women 15.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
