In 1986 occurred 2,139 suicides in Austria. This year, 48 more people committed suicide than in 1985. In 1986, on average 6 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria had 28.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.39 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,139 recorded suicide cases in 1986, 1,511 were men suicides and 628 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 42 per 100,000 men and for women 15.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
