In 1984 around 2,028 suicides occurred in Austria, 13 less than in 1983. In 1984, on average 6 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria reported 26.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,028 recorded suicide cases in 1984, 1,442 were men suicides and 586 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 40.2 per 100,000 men and for women 14.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
