Australia had 12.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 2,456 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 1,935 were men suicides and 521 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.2 per 100,000 men and for women 5.4 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Australia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 347 homicides in Australia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.1 suicides.
