By 2003, suicides in Afghanistan increased by 84 people to at 1,166 suicides In 2003, on average 3 Afghans committed suicide every day.

In Afghanistan there were 5.99 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,166 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 972 were men suicides and 194 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.53 per 100,000 men and for women 1.73 per 100,000 female.
