In December, vehicle registrations in Canada grew by 1.64% with respect to December of 1972. In total, 74,679 cars were registered and 1,226,698 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 15.12% more than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of December is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 16,773, 9.5% more than in December of 1972.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 57,906, which represents a figure of 0.44% less than in December of 1972.

With annual sales of 54.54 cars per 1,000 residents, 3.32 of them in the last month, Canada, occupies pole position, which tells us that its population enjoys a high standard of living.
As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
