In October, vehicle registrations in Austria grew by 8.58% with respect to October of 2018. In total, 29,188 cars were registered and 344,005 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 15.24% less than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of October is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 4,050, 7.3% less than in October of 2018.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 25,138, which represents a figure of 11.66% more than in October of 2018.
Austria is the 30th-placed country in ranking of 137 countries based on number of vehicle registrations.
A very useful variable for estimating the level of economic wealth enjoyed by Austrians residents, when compared to the other countries in the ranking, is the number of vehicles sold or registered per thousand residents in the last year. With annual sales of 38.83 cars per 1,000 residents, 3.29 of them in the last month, Austria, occupies 9th place, so, compared to the other countries in the ranking, its population has a good standard of living.
As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has grown in the last year. The increase in this figure is positive, as it generally indicates improved public confidence in the country's economy.
Changes in Austrian vehicle registration numbers are shown in the tables below. Sales have grown since 2009, as 341,313 were produced that year although there has been a drop in the number of registrations per thousand residents, which that year numbered 40.95.
