Basic balance

It is an important monetary aggregate that forms part of a country's balance of payments. It is obtained from the sum of the Current Account Balance and the Long-Term Capital Balance.

Basic Balance = Current Account + Capital Account

The balance of the basic balance indicates whether the country is a debtor or creditor with respect to the rest of the countries. If it shows a persistent deficit, the country is exporting assets and is a debtor and indicates that there may be long-term financing problems. If the basic balance shows a surplus, the country is importing assets and is a creditor vis-à-vis the outside world.
