Number of suicides increases in Uruguay

In 2014 around 593 suicides occurred in Uruguay, 48 more than in 2013. In Uruguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Uruguay reported 17.16 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.71 suicides per 100,000 people.

Uruguay is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 593 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 456 were men suicides and 137 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 27.83 per 100,000 men and for women 7.81 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Uruguay suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 268 homicides in Uruguay, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.2 suicides.
