South Korea had 26.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.96 suicides per 100,000 people.
South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 12,858 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 8,260 were men suicides and 4,598 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.5 per 100,000 men and for women 18.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 430 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 29.9 suicides.
