By 1999, suicides in South Korea increased by 1,565 people to at 7,134 suicides In 1999, on average 20 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

In South Korea there were 15.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.31 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 7,134 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 5,005 were men suicides and 2,129 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.3 per 100,000 men and for women 9.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 385 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 18.5 suicides.
