There are 24 suicides per day in South Korea

In 1998 around 8,699 suicides occurred in South Korea, 2,574 more than in 1997. In 1998, on average 24 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

South Korea reported 18.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.84 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 8,699 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 6,275 were men suicides and 2,424 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.9 per 100,000 men and for women 10.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 378 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 23 suicides.
