In 1999 around 590 suicides occurred in Slovenia, 22 less than in 1998. In Slovenia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Slovenia reported 29.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.31 suicides per 100,000 people.
Slovenia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 590 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 453 were men suicides and 137 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 46.8 per 100,000 men and for women 13.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovenia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 25 homicides in Slovenia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 23.6 suicides.
