Number of suicides increases in Singapore

In 2009 around 528 suicides occurred in Singapore, 48 more than in 2008. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Singapore reported 10.58 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 528 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 354 were men suicides and 174 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.71 per 100,000 men and for women 7.22 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 20 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 26.4 suicides.
