Number of suicides falls in Singapore

In 2008 occurred 480 suicides in Singapore. This year, 7 fewer people committed suicide than in 2007. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Singapore had 9.92 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 480 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 319 were men suicides and 161 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.82 per 100,000 men and for women 6.85 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 27 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 17.8 suicides.
