Suicides increase in Singapore

In 2001 occurred 472 suicides in Singapore. This year, 6 more people committed suicide than in 2000. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Singapore had 11.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 472 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 299 were men suicides and 172 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.17 per 100,000 men and for women 8.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 32 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 14.8 suicides.
