Mongolia has a very high suicide rate

In 2009 occurred 713 suicides in Mongolia. This year, 8 fewer people committed suicide than in 2008. In Mongolia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Mongolia had 26.24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Mongolia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 713 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 575 were men suicides and 137 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 43.31 per 100,000 men and for women 10.27 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mongolia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 219 homicides in Mongolia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
