Suicides increase in Moldova

In 2009 occurred 810 suicides in Moldova. This year, 39 more people committed suicide than in 2008. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Moldova has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 810 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 681 were men suicides and 129 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 39.73 per 100,000 men and for women 6.96 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Moldova suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 246 homicides in Moldova, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
