Mexico - Intentional self-harm

In 1998 occurred 3,342 suicides in Mexico. This year, 28 fewer people committed suicide than in 1997. In 1998, on average 9 Mexicans committed suicide every day.

Mexico had 3.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.84 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Mexico has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 3,342 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 2,827 were men suicides and 514 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6 per 100,000 men and for women 1.1 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 1998 there were there were 13,656 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 4.1 homicides per suicide.
