Suicides increase in North Macedonia

In 2009 occurred 167 suicides in North Macedonia. This year, 6 more people committed suicide than in 2008.

North Macedonia had 8.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 167 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 125 were men suicides and 42 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.2 per 100,000 men and for women 4.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In North Macedonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 35 homicides in North Macedonia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.8 suicides.
