Number of suicides falls in Kyrgyzstan

In 2003 occurred 542 suicides in Kyrgyzstan. This year, 109 fewer people committed suicide than in 2002. In Kyrgyzstan, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Kyrgyzstan had 10.82 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 542 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 450 were men suicides and 92 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.3 per 100,000 men and for women 3.57 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Kyrgyzstan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 420 homicides in Kyrgyzstan, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.3 suicides.
