In 2002 around 2,174 suicides occurred in Kenya, 30 more than in 2001. In 2002, on average 6 Kenyans committed suicide every day.

Kenya reported 6.99 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,174 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 1,744 were men suicides and 430 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.72 per 100,000 men and for women 2.61 per 100,000 female.
