There are 80 suicides per day in Japan

In 2001 occurred 29,375 suicides in Japan. This year, 876 fewer people committed suicide than in 2000. In 2001, on average 80 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan had 23.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 29,375 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 21,085 were men suicides and 8,290 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.9 per 100,000 men and for women 12.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 697 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 42.1 suicides.
