In 1987 around 245 suicides occurred in Ireland, 37 less than in 1986.

Ireland reported 6.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.56 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Ireland has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 245 recorded suicide cases in 1987, 185 were men suicides and 60 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.5 per 100,000 men and for women 3.4 per 100,000 female.
