In Hungary there were 27.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.
Hungary has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 2,742 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 2,087 were men suicides and 655 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 43.5 per 100,000 men and for women 12.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Hungary suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 209 homicides in Hungary, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.1 suicides.
