Suicides grow in Guyana

By 2004, suicides in Guyana increased by 8 people to at 178 suicides

In Guyana there were 23.98 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.

Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 178 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 133 were men suicides and 45 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 34.92 per 100,000 men and for women 11.92 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 131 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.4 suicides.
