In 1977 occurred 1,222 suicides in Finland. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 1976. In 1977, on average 3 Finns committed suicide every day.

Finland had 25.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 12.83 suicides per 100,000 people.

Finland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,222 recorded suicide cases in 1977, 962 were men suicides and 260 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 42 per 100,000 men and for women 10.6 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
