Suicides increase in Finland

In 2021 occurred 748 suicides in Finland. This year, 22 more people committed suicide than in 2020. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Finland had 13.43 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.18 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 748 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 525 were men suicides and 223 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.06 per 100,000 men and for women 7.92 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Finland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 82 homicides in Finland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.1 suicides.
