Number of suicides increases in Finland

In 2023 around 765 suicides occurred in Finland, 17 more than in 2022. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Finland reported 13.65 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.12 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 765 recorded suicide cases in 2023, 567 were men suicides and 198 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.44 per 100,000 men and for women 7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Finland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 55 homicides in Finland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.9 suicides.
