Of the 577 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 478 were men suicides and 99 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.8 per 100,000 men and for women 2.08 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Dominican Republic. However, in Dominican Republic in 2009 there were there were 2,375 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 4.1 homicides per suicide.
