Colombia has a low suicide rate

In 1998 around 2,112 suicides occurred in Colombia, 852 more than in 1997. In 1998, on average 6 Colombians committed suicide every day.

Colombia reported 5.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.84 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Colombia has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,112 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 1,601 were men suicides and 511 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.3 per 100,000 men and for women 2.6 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Colombia. However, in Colombia in 1998 there were there were 23,089 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 10.9 homicides per suicide.
