Public debt in Afghanistan goes down

In 2019 Afghanistan public debt was 1,034 million euros1,157 million dollars, has decreased 116201 million since 2018.

This amount means that the debt in 2019 reached 6.13% of Afghanistan GDP, a 1.25 percentage point fall from 2018, when it was 7.38% of GDP.

If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Afghanistan debt. It has gone down since 2009 in global debt terms, when it was 1,407 million euros 1,963 million dollars , and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 16.25%.

According to the last data point published, Afghanistan per capita debt in 2019 was 28 euros31 dollars per inhabitant. In 2018 it was 32 euros 37 dollars, afterwards dropping by 4 euros 6dollars, and if we again check 2009 we can see that then the debt per person was 50 euros70 dollars .

The position of Afghanistan, as compared with the rest of the world, has remained in 2019 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 3 in the list of debt to GDP and 1 in debt per capita, out of the 188 we publish.
