In 2008 around 5,979 suicides occurred in Viet Nam, 265 more than in 2007. In 2008, on average 16 Vietnamese committed suicide every day.
Viet Nam reported 6.93 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.96 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 5,979 recorded suicide cases in 2008, 4,529 were men suicides and 1,450 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.75 per 100,000 men and for women 3.34 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Viet Nam suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,092 homicides in Viet Nam, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.5 suicides.
