Venezuela - Intentional self-harm

In 2009 occurred 1,039 suicides in Venezuela. This year, 153 fewer people committed suicide than in 2008. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Venezuela had 3.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,039 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 833 were men suicides and 207 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 5.89 per 100,000 men and for women 1.46 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Venezuela. However, in Venezuela in 2009 there were there were 13,985 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 13.5 homicides per suicide.
