Suicides increase in Tunisia

In 2009 occurred 535 suicides in Tunisia. This year, 16 more people committed suicide than in 2008. In Tunisia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Tunisia had 5.08 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 535 recorded suicide cases in 2009, 324 were men suicides and 211 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.03 per 100,000 men and for women 3.89 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Tunisia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 255 homicides in Tunisia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.1 suicides.
