In 1999 around 3,218 suicides occurred in Spain, 43 less than in 1998. In 1999, on average 9 Spaniards committed suicide every day.

Spain reported 8.06 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.31 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Spain, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 3,218 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 2,410 were men suicides and 808 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.33 per 100,000 men and for women 3.97 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Spain suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 486 homicides in Spain, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.6 suicides.
