In 1998 occurred 3,261 suicides in Spain. This year, 112 fewer people committed suicide than in 1997. In 1998, on average 9 Spaniards committed suicide every day.

Spain had 8.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.84 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Spain, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 3,261 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 2,499 were men suicides and 762 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.8 per 100,000 men and for women 3.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Spain suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 522 homicides in Spain, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.2 suicides.
