Suicides increase in Slovakia

In 1999 occurred 693 suicides in Slovakia. This year, 21 more people committed suicide than in 1998. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Slovakia had 12.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.31 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Slovakia, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 693 recorded suicide cases in 1999, 591 were men suicides and 102 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.5 per 100,000 men and for women 3.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 141 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.9 suicides.
