Suicides grow in Slovakia

By 1998, suicides in Slovakia increased by 42 people to at 672 suicides In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Slovakia there were 12.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.84 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 672 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 584 were men suicides and 88 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.3 per 100,000 men and for women 3.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 128 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.3 suicides.
