Suicides decreased in Slovakia

In 1997 around 630 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 42 less than in 1996. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Slovakia reported 11.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Slovakia, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 630 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 524 were men suicides and 106 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20 per 100,000 men and for women 3.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 140 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.5 suicides.
