Russia has a very high suicide rate

In 1998 around 51,770 suicides occurred in Russia, 3,261 less than in 1997. In 1998, on average 142 Russians committed suicide every day.

Russia reported 35.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.84 suicides per 100,000 people.

Russia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 51,770 recorded suicide cases in 1998, 42,785 were men suicides and 8,985 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 61.9 per 100,000 men and for women 11.4 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Russia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 33,553 homicides in Russia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
