Russia has a very high suicide rate

In 1997 occurred 55,031 suicides in Russia. This year, 2,781 fewer people committed suicide than in 1996. In 1997, on average 151 Russians committed suicide every day.

Russia had 37.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Russia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 55,031 recorded suicide cases in 1997, 45,519 were men suicides and 9,512 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 65.7 per 100,000 men and for women 12.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Russia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 34,995 homicides in Russia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.6 suicides.
